I feel as if you are trying to white wash to carry out NGO and international agenda to deprive rights of the majority Sinhalese in the country and give extra unfair privileges to minorities. I cant free my mind of the feeling that you are carrying out somebody else's contracts through your journalism and writing skills. Persons like Rajitha Dilan and now Chandrika don't have to steal from public funds as they are looked after by international forces who aim at dividing the country to exploit natural resources and sell arms to two countries in Sri Lanka. With or without knowledge you are also part of it. Can you tell some examples from the world where minority racial greed is solved by giving extra privileges to minorities at the cost of majority rights ? ultimately two countries are made. Nobody talk about Pakistan and Bangladesh anymore as part of India. It is long forgotten although people talk little about Yugoslavia. People with opinions of your category talk about a middle point but will end up in division. Sri Lanka need a solution like in Singapore where all people live in all areas so that one race cannot cry unnecessarily, I think most Sri Lankans are wise enough not to swallow this bait. Hope Sri Lankans will not appoint people who are paid by NGO's and international community to parliament in the next General Election. Although Sri Lankans want good governance they do not want it at the cost winning Tamil Racism.

    1. Do you honestly belive that you would miss any thing because of minority granted with equal right in this country ? Being a Sinhalese , all my rights were taken away by fellow Sinhalese and not by the Minority. And because of the loyalty of the minority , the dictator was overthrown.
The whole world (at least the developed nations) Is moving away from the caste based, language based discrimination, at least they are trying to. And people like you want to go back.
And the same tune about NGOs and conspiracy theories… It’s pathetic

    2. In my opinion, western based NGOs (operating in SL) and the local patriotic organizations play a balanced role in the political arena in the country. There are western based NGOS which are committed to promote the social justice and the democratic ideals. At the same time there are some other NGOs which do not work for such ideals. They could even be considered as operative in a destructive manner. We see those two kinds of organizations among the patriotic movements as well. There are some patriotic organizations which are toxic to ethnic and religious harmony in the country.
The two parties who came to the power after the independence practiced the ‘divided rule’ just like the Imperial Masters. They did not make a genuine attempt to understand the divisions among the different ethnic and religious groups and to promote the harmony and justice towards all groups. In my opinion Chandrika was the very first leader who took a genuine interest and initiative towards this direction. But I fully agree that her regime too was filled with corruption and lawlessness.

  5. Chandrika, is not a liberal or a leftist. She came to power saying she was going to give a Human face to Open Economy. She sold all the rest of government institutions, much more than JR's open economy did. If these institutions were not viable that was a fault of her government's administration. She governed with Chandi, PSD and some henchmen around. Her aids were Milinda, SB, Mahindananda etc. Good people like Dharmsiri Senanayake was not on her list. Mature politicins like Bernard Soyza was not given prominence. If she was liberal and democratic she wouldn't do that. She did favouritism and she took favours as well. Rajitha gave her lands to be given to her family. The least is she is not a honest person. When she was young she got appointed as chief of Usawasama or Janawasama back in the day when her mum was PM I am not sure whether she was qualified to do that job. The fact is all these became a failure as you would know, because those were not managed well. Once she said in an interview that she was a reformed socialist. What does that mean? there is no category called reformed socialists. That means she represents her class of capitalists. She promised to abolish executive presidency (some candidates withdrew after getting a written assurance of that from her) but did not do it. Finally she prorogued the parliament. Is it what you expect from Akarshaniiya politician?. Can go on and on. Our politicians are very selfish, what ever happens I do not expect wonders to happen, that would be very immature. and also it is not good to praise people who are alive and active, because they could change their behaviours or allegiances. At least me I only talk good about dead people they would never change their attitude toward people.

  6. When I read these comments, I felt that the so called Sinhalese diaspora had not yet matured to say right to what is right when it is needed, and to say wrong to what is wrong when it is needed. If all of us can understand the process of evolving, then we can understand the Sri Lanka is going through that process. All of us can be happy that it had been much more peaceful this time than expected. We can be happy that a nation is sailing towards a better time in a peaceful way (relatively). Everyone who supported the process must be recognized, and those who are trying to undermine the peaceful process must be exposed. Some people from the diaspora are just trying to criticize, without ever attempting to go back to Sri Lanka and trying to help this progressive steps the country is taking. They have to understand that what matters is the contribution to a process leading to progress, and not the personal relationships. I want you to start comparing the North America, UK, France, during their journey to prosperity (think what they did, boot legging, crime, oppression, etc.) in comparison to Sri Lanka which is taking that pain now. As educated people, what everyone must try to do now is to attempt to minimize the damage and steer the country to that huge goal in in a humanistic way, because now we live in the 2000's and not in 1800's.

  7. Chandrika did not finish but she started. With Lushman Kadiragamar she managed to reverse the world opinion on Tiger outfit. And, during her time Sri Lankan Forces conquered Jaffna. Those were two landmarks of war against terrorism in Sri Lanka. Nobody can take that away from her and her subsequent failures did not reverse those two victories. Mr. Rajapaksha took it from there and finished the war, his subsequent failures should not be any reason to take the credit away from him too.
But, M/s Rajapaksha & Rajapaksha went one step ahead to keep Tamils at bay. Now that is what my people, the Sinhala of Sri Lanka, really want. They are now faced with the possible problem of co-existing with other citizens of Sri Lanka on equal basis. That's unthinkable discrimination for them. So they should not be hurt with Racist agendas of minorities, but it is their birth right to exercise their superiority on Sri Lankan citizens of other races, which is not racism in their minds.

  8. Very interesting discussion. The role of NGO's in Sri Lanka had always been aimed at destabilizing the progressive governments which had tried to escape from the grip of the west. The task of the diaspora is to help the country to move forward by helping the people to understand what these organizations are doing. By looking through the sunglasses of the west, most of the members of diaspora of the eastern countries see a much darker picture of their own country and are trying to denounce the development of their own countries. So please be mindful of this fact when you comment on your country of birth (lot of people are no longer consider their country of birth as motherland). Chandrika's government was one such victim. I am happy to see that people are now trying to recognize that regime, which they denied some time back due to selfish motives. :)
